Question by subconcious790: Health Food store vitamins VS Regular Store Vitamins?
I was wondering if there is a difference between buying vitamins at a health food store, you know all the organic foods and healthy choices and what not, then buying vitamins at a regular store like Walmart or Publix? I know that there are different brands at these places but does that mean those brands are more healthy or better vitamins at the health food store than the brands at regular stores?

What counts most in the choice of vitamin is how well it will dissolve and be absorbed by the small intestine. Vitamins are basically chemicals, and it just doesn’t matter to your body if they came from a health food store tablet or the grocery store tablet. Vitamin tablets must all contain what they claim to contain, in the amounts the label states. It doesn’t matter in tablet form whether the vitamins were put together in the lab or extracted from food sources, in the tablet form they are all the same chemical. Your body would prefer to get them from the food source directly, and they absorb best that way. In tablet form, your chances are better if you get a chewable form than one enteric coated tablet. Those coatings don’t always come off well enough to allow absorption in time. And most of the tablet actually goes through the system, by the way. Vitamin and mineral supplements work best if taken every day, for that reason. Unless you have a particular medical problem, or your diet is that badly restricted, a generic children’s chewable vitamin from the grocery store is just fine to meet your needs. You don’t need a fancy expensive vitamin from anywhere, and you also don’t need one that contains more than 100% of your RDA of anything. Buy the least expensive chewable version you can find, and be assured that it will work just fine. And just as well as the more expensive ones.

Food Enzymes [Digestive, Immune] is a key product for the digestive system. Foods require processing (digestion), and enzymes are able to break down food compounds for absorption into the bloodstream. A number of different enzymes are needed to deal with differing food compounds. Some of these are produced by the body, some are found in foods. However, many processed foods lack the enzymes needed for proper digestion. This formulation supplements the body's production of digestive enzymes and those enzymes found in the diet. For example, pepsin is used for the digestion of proteins (betaine hydrochloride or HCl); pancreatin is produced by the pancreas to digest proteins, carbohydrates and fats in the small intestines; mycozyme digests star

Try: http://www.mypyramid.gov/

If you look around the site, you’ll find all kinds of information on foods, healthy dieting, exercise, etc. There are even food intake, and exercise tracking tools, and best of all, it’s all free. The site isn’t dedicated, or supported by any specific brands, or diets, so the information is completely impartial. It also isn’t just about losing weight. It’s more about healthy eating and living, and making good/knowledgeable food choices.
