A packed commuter train ploughed into the buffers at a Buenos Aires station during morning rush hour on Wednesday, killing at least 49 people and injuring more than 600 others, officials said. They said the train was unable to stop, presumably due to faulty brakes, and it slammed into the buffers inside the centrally located “Once” station. More than 800 passengers were aboard the train A police spokesman said 49 people had been killed. “The train entered the Once station at 26 kilometres per hour (16 mph)… we suppose there was some flaw in the brakes,” Transport Secretary Juan Pablo Schiavi was quoted as telling Telam. Hundreds of thousands of people travel into Argentina’s capital from the suburbs every day. Actually, smart travel agents are thriving in the era of TripAdvisor and online booking engines. The key word in that sentence is “smart.”

The online booking sites have relieved travel agents of the least profitable bookings — those for cheap, point-to-point air and bargain basement trips. The most successful travel agents are specializing in high-ticket, high-margin travel products that are sold best person-to-person and by building relationships built on trust and expertise with customers who want personalized service and who will remain loyal for years.

The best travel agents make over $ 50,000 a year. A select few earn over $ 100,000.

So your plan is a good one. Just remember to sell on value, not on price.

We have just been on a tropical island so far. But tomorrow we are getting up at 4 a.m. to take plane into the jungle. The tour guide operator gave us a list of things to take, then said we didn’t need one item on the list, flashlights. ‘That is only for people who want to catch an alligator at night,’ she said.
However C. and I might want to do just that.
